Westringia `Blue Gem` is a compact medium size shrub with a natural round bun shape habit. It flowers in spring with masses of vivid bluish purple flowers that look almost fluorescent. It makes a great hedge plant and responds well to pruning and shaping and if left un pruned its natural dense growth habit makes it a low maintenance hedge plant.

Westringia 'WES03'

Blue Gem - Westringia 'WES03' is an improved cultivar of this popular native plant. Westringia are members of the plant family Lamiaceae, member of this plant family include mint, thyme and rosemary for this reason Westringia are often called ‘Native Rosemary’. Blue Gem will grow is a wide range of soil types and climates, they are frost hardy, very drought tolerant and are the perfect plant for seaside coastal gardens. Because they are great hedging plants they will fit with native styled formal gardens.

Height & Width

If left unpruned they will grow - 1.5m X 1.3m. When hedging they can be kept as low as 50cm X 50cm wided or prune to 1m X 80cm

Soil Type

Wide range of free draining soils sandy loams to clay loams.


If left unpruned very little maintenance is needed, if hedging trim very few months to train to shape after which pruning can be 3 to 4 times a year as needed.
