Wild May - Tea-tree

Wild May, Tea Tree, Leptospermum polygalifolium, is a shrub that can range from 1 metre to 3 metres in height, Leptospermum polygalifolium has been used as a garden plant for many years, both as a specimen and in combination with other plants. It is a hardy shrub that will produce a good display of flowers, this is where it gets it's common name of 'Wild May' from. It can be grown as a hedge plant, but is best when trimmed regularly with light pruning as at times it doesn't respond well to heavy pruning into old wood. It is generally a long-lived shrub but can become a bit straggly with age, older plants can become small trees to 7 metres.
