MANDEVILLA ALL SEASONS RED™ PBR INTENDED
Tough, Cold tolerant mandevilla with deep red flowers
All Seasons Red™ Mandevilla Spp 'MANDI301' PBR Intended
The All Seasons Red™ Mandevilla is a superior variety of Mandevilla that offers several advantages over other types, making it a standout choice for your garden or containers. This variety is known for its large, vibrant, deep red flowers, which are more vivid compared to most other Mandevillas. In addition to its striking blooms, the All Seasons Red™ Mandevilla has impressive cold tolerance, thriving in light to moderate frosts, which most other Mandevillas cannot handle. It has performed particularly well in places like Richmond, NSW, and even showed improved performance in the colder climate of Victoria, making it a better option for cooler regions.
This Mandevilla's growth habit is both compact and dense, making it ideal for climbing up trellises or fences, or as a trailing plant in containers. It maintains a lush and full appearance, even in smaller spaces. The All Seasons Red™ Mandevilla also stands out for its toughness, as it handles heat better than other varieties and experiences less dieback. Its glossy foliage remains clean and healthy, enhancing its overall beauty. Additionally, it features a long flowering period, providing a consistent display of vibrant color throughout the season.
The plant thrives in well-drained soils, preferably loamy mixes rich in organic matter. It is important to avoid heavy, waterlogged soils, which can harm the plant. During dry spells, it will need regular watering, especially if planted in free-draining soils. While frost tender, the All Seasons Red™ Mandevilla can handle light to moderate frosts if protected by nearby trees or structures. It is best suited for regions with mild winters or areas that provide some frost protection.
For maintenance, it is recommended to prune the plant annually to keep it tidy and encourage abundant flowers. Prune the vines by about half during the winter, cutting just above a pair of leaves. Avoid over-pruning during warmer months to ensure a good flowering season. Fertilize moderately, with a light application in spring and yearly fertilization to support optimal growth. New shoots may attract aphids, which can be managed with Pyrethrum, while scale can be treated with white oil or pest oil.
The All Seasons Red™ Mandevilla is perfect for use as a climbing vine on trellises and fences or as a trailing plant in containers. Its compact size makes it suitable for smaller spaces, and it can add vibrant colour to patios, gardens, or other decorative structures. This Mandevilla’s cold tolerance, long flowering period, and overall toughness make it a resilient and beautiful choice for a variety of climates.
